[...] Goals [...]
I love writing out my goals too. I think the fact I have them on my blog (both in my sidebars and our goals for our “five year plan” on it’s own page) help keep me motivated to doing them!
~Tara
Hi Tara,
I will stop by and see your goals, I just love to see what every one is thinking about and planning. I haven’t thought about a 5 year plan but sure will. Thanks for telling me about it.
Have a wonderful day
Karyn
Just curious Karyn,
Do you have clay soil up there?? If so go to Lowes and get 40lb bags of Pelletized Gypsum (yes the same thing sheet rock is made from) this will break down clay soils, however it is best to add organic matter once the soil has broken down, believe me in a week or so if it rains after putting it on, it is wonderful stuff!!! and Cheap like 5.00 per bag (don’t get it in the little bags in the garden center they will rob you, Lowe’s if you have one has the 40lbs bags at a fraction of the cost.
At least down here you can often find canning jars at thrift stores, also a good place are Saturday Rural Auctions, a friend of mine ended up with 800 canning jars (she did not realize there were that many when she bought them for 30.00!!!
Also, believe it or not………..we have had Mayonaise jars out last ball canning jars!!! I know according to the government in the day you do this Yea Shall Surely Die!!!! Well 40 years later and I am here writing this blog comment
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell,
No we have almost perfect rich loamy garden soil here. Our home is build on the same site as the old farm was and the potato fields. I only add compost about once a year, in the fall I will top dress the beds with horse manure and in the spring cover with compost as mulch. I will be creating new raised beds in the spring and will most likely need to do something to the soil then.
I agree with you, mayo jars are just perfect and I have always used them, guess what I’m not dead yet either. Good luck finding glass mayo jars these days so if you have them keep them. I also reuse the jars store bought jam comes in to refill with jelly and jam in the summer and fall. I will use the lide twice for a total of 3 times before I give them a new life doing something else. I also in a pinch will use parafin wax on top of the jelly instead of lids. Don’t tell the canning police! I also use whole milk straight from the farm….oh’ my.
I have been playing around with some jelly and jam recipes using the Pomonas pectin and very little sugar to see if I can come up with a recipe my husband can safely eat and like. More on this soon.
